The Malian Armed Forces have declared that they have reclaimed the initiative and restored stability across all regions targeted by attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated faction, operating in central and southern Mali.
Intensified clashes in Anifif
In an official statement, the Malian military detailed ongoing combat operations in Anifif, located in the northeast, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following the arrival of reinforcements for the Azawad Liberation Front. The FAMA emphasized that their troops responded with unwavering resolve, sustaining the fight throughout the day with precision and valor.
Firm commitment to national security
The army’s communiqué underscored its complete confidence in the capacity of its forces to safeguard Mali’s territorial integrity, shield its citizens, and decisively defeat enemy combatants. The statement reinforced their dedication to restoring peace and security nationwide, rejecting any attempts to destabilize the region.
Azawad Liberation Front denies leadership claims
In a separate statement, the spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, asserted that the group maintained control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He also refuted reports of the death of the Front’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, confirming that Akli continues to oversee military operations in northern Mali.
