The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared that they have successfully reclaimed the upper hand and stabilized all conflict zones targeted by coordinated attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern Mali.
According to an official statement, fierce clashes continued throughout Sunday at Anifif, a strategic location in the northeastern region approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The military confirmed the arrival of fresh reinforcements—both human and material—intended to bolster the Azawad Liberation Front’s positions.
The FAMA emphasized in their communiqué that their troops engaged the enemy with unwavering resolve, maintaining combat operations through the day with exceptional discipline and bravery. The statement underscored the army’s absolute confidence in its ability to safeguard national unity and territorial integrity, protect civilians, and decisively defeat hostile forces.
The army’s announcement follows claims by Azawad Liberation Front spokesperson Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, who asserted that his group had regained control of the Anifif area after renewed hostilities. Ramadan also refuted rumors of the death of the Front’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that the commander remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
