The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a renewed upper hand in critical conflict zones, asserting full control over areas targeted by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in the north and by the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM)—an Al-Qaeda affiliate—in central and southern regions.
In a statement released today, the FAMA confirmed intense fighting persisted on Sunday near Anifif, located in the northeastern part of the country, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. Reinforcements dispatched to bolster the MNLA’s position faced determined resistance as Malian troops engaged in sustained operations throughout the day, demonstrating both resilience and tactical discipline.
The army’s communiqué emphasized unwavering confidence in its operational capabilities, vowing to safeguard national unity, territorial integrity, and civilian safety while decisively defeating hostile forces. The statement underscored the FAMA’s commitment to restoring stability across Mali’s diverse landscapes.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the MNLA, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anfif following the resumption of hostilities. He also refuted rumors of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, being killed, asserting that Akli continues to oversee military operations in northern Mali.
