A delegation from the UNESCO Mali office, led by its Acting Head and Representative, Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, attended the official launch ceremony of the 32nd edition of the national reforestation campaign on Saturday, July 26, 2026, in Bamako. Held at the Palais des Pionniers, the event was chaired by General Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the Transitional President.

The ceremony brought together government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, and youth and women’s associations. It also gathered environmental protection advocates, sustainable resource management experts, and climate change resilience stakeholders.

Under the theme “Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship for a greener, more resilient Mali”, this 32nd edition reinforces national initiatives to restore ecosystems, combat desertification, and preserve natural resources. A key focus is citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as pivotal actors in ecological transition. The campaign aims to plant 21 million trees nationwide during the rainy season, contributing to the vision of a greener, more resilient Mali.

By participating in this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali in raising community awareness, strengthening local capacities, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
