Cotonou witnessed a landmark meeting this week as senior officials from Bénin and Morocco reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties. The discussions, held ahead of the joint chairmanship of the 7th session of the Morocco-Bénin Mixed Cooperation Commission, highlighted significant progress across multiple sectors since King Mohammed VI’s landmark visit to Bénin in June 2004.
The delegations, led by Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Bénin’s Foreign Minister Corinne Amori Brunet—accompanied by Budget Minister Hugues Oscar Lokossou—expressed strong satisfaction with the outcomes of existing cooperation frameworks. They emphasized the enduring bonds of friendship and mutual respect between the two nations, further reinforced by the close relationship between King Mohammed VI and Bénin’s President Romuald Wadagni.
Both sides underscored their shared vision to elevate the partnership into a leading model of African inter-state cooperation. This vision is rooted in core values such as solidarity, reciprocal exchange, and shared progress. During the talks, participants identified a wide range of high-potential sectors poised for deeper collaboration, including:
- Economy and trade: Expanding commercial exchanges and bilateral investments
- Industry and agriculture: Joint ventures and technology transfer initiatives
- Tourism and culture: Promoting cultural exchanges and tourism flows
- Justice and security: Strengthening institutional cooperation and capacity-building
- Professional training and higher education: Enhancing skills development programs

In a bid to accelerate economic integration, the two governments resolved to mobilize the private sectors of both countries. The goal is to position private enterprises as key drivers of trade expansion and sustainable development financing, ensuring that cooperation translates into tangible benefits for citizens on both sides.
