In a bold revelation, Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna has disclosed the exact amounts Ousmane Sonko allegedly received from political funds during his tenure as Prime Minister. According to Sagna, these unsupervised disbursements totaled 1.7 billion West African CFA francs—an amount he emphasized was neither illegal nor irregular, as it falls within the legal framework for political funding.
However, the revelation takes on a more contentious tone when compared to the public stance of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who has previously advocated for stricter oversight of political funds. Sagna pointed out that the President himself controls over 8 billion CFA francs, distributed across various unmonitored financial mechanisms including political funds, secret reserves, special funds, and sovereign wealth funds.
