A significant political realignment is unfolding in Sénégal as three prominent ministers, including Yankhoba Diémé, have announced their departure from Pastef to pledge allegiance to President Diomaye. In a striking declaration, they described the former party of Ousmane Sonko as merely an « coquille vide » (empty shell), signaling a profound shift within the nation’s political landscape.
Ministers Ibrahima Sy, Yankhoba Diémé, and Alioune Dione have officially severed ties with Pastef. These individuals, who were once key active members alongside Ousmane Sonko before his departure from the premiership, have now unequivocally clarified their political allegiances.
Their decision comes with a clear message: despite their history as staunch opponents of Macky Sall and fervent supporters of Ousmane Sonko in past struggles, they assert that their current choice is for « la République » (the Republic) rather than personal gain or partisan interests. This move underscores a significant shift in their political philosophy.
In a pointed statement, Yankhoba Diémé, who previously served as Pastef‘s departmental coordinator in Bignona, declared, « Il ne reste plus rien au Pastef. C’est désormais une coquille vide » (There is nothing left of Pastef. It is now an empty shell). Echoing this sentiment, Alioune Dione, a former political leader for Pastef in Diourbel, announced his commitment, stating, « Je m’engage avec tous mes frères à adhérer et entrer dans ce parti du président Diomaye » (I commit with all my brothers to join and enter this party of President Diomaye).
