Under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabè government has disclosed that more than 1.3 million internally displaced persons have successfully returned to their original communities as of June 30, 2026. This milestone follows a steady improvement in security conditions across multiple areas reclaimed by national forces.

Officials report that these returnees now hail from 1,034 localities, a significant increase from the 871 communities recorded at the close of 2025. By the end of that year, the figure stood at 1.16 million displaced individuals who had made the journey back home.
mid-year performance and humanitarian support
These findings were shared during a mid-year review of the Ministry of Solidarity’s progress. With halfway through the 2026 fiscal year, the ministry has achieved 46.06% of its planned targets. Additionally, over 480,000 vulnerable individuals have received critical assistance during the first six months of the year. Support included food supplies, essential non-food items, and tailored programs designed to strengthen their recovery.

Government representatives underscored the urgent need to fast-track the reconstruction of homes in affected areas. They emphasized that restoring habitable living spaces is vital to sustaining voluntary returns and ensuring long-term stability for returning families.
