Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, conveyed his deep sorrow following the demise of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The spiritual leader passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a public statement shared on Facebook, Sonko paid tribute to the religious guide’s memory and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Khalife General of the Mourides, and the entire Senegalese nation.

“It is with profound emotion and immense sadness that I received the news of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké’s return to God, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo,” Ousmane Sonko wrote.

The President of the National Assembly also reflected on the various occasions he had met the late religious figure during his visits to Guinguinéo.

“I was privileged to encounter the venerated religious leader numerous times during my trips to Guinguinéo. On each occasion, he showed us extraordinary affection, a warm reception, and a benevolence that left a lasting impression on us,” he recounted.

During this “painful period,” Ousmane Sonko conveyed his “most sincere condolences” to the family of the deceased, to the Khalife General of the Mourides, to the religious community of Guinguinéo, and to all the people of Senegal.

“May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant him His forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal Paradise,” he concluded.
