In a recent interview, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party and President of Senegal’s National Assembly, addressed persistent speculation about his potential candidacy in the 2029 presidential election.

When questioned about his intentions, Sonko emphasized the need for patience. “It is premature to discuss my candidacy,” he stated. “There are many claims circulating about my potential run in 2029, but I prefer to wait. My party will ultimately decide its candidate through internal processes, and we are not there yet.”

Regarding President Diomaye Faye’s potential bid for re-election in 2029, Sonko took a measured stance. “I respect his journey and my own path remains distinct,” he explained. “I will not speculate on whether the current president will run again or comment on his potential candidacy.”
