Beninese and Nigerien delegations convened in Cotonou to discuss the reopening of their shared border, following President Romuald Wadagni’s recent visit to Niamey. The two-day technical meeting, which began on June 20, is part of broader efforts to restore bilateral relations between the neighboring nations.

Led by Niger’s State Minister of Security, General Mohamed Toumba, and Benin’s Minister of African Integration, Adjadi Bakari, the sessions focused on critical areas including security protocols, defense strategies, legal frameworks, and economic collaboration. Closed-door discussions continued into Sunday, June 21.

While optimism surrounds the potential border reopening, pending agreements on defense cooperation, security measures, and customs procedures remain essential before any formal decision is made.
