Recently, WAPCO (Niger), in partnership with the local livestock office, successfully concluded a vital cattle vaccination and deworming campaign within the Zinder region. This comprehensive initiative reached seven pastoral settlements, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, providing essential care to over 10,000 animals. This successful undertaking signifies the completion of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s “Healthy Communities” public interest activities, which have now extended their reach to all areas along the pipeline route.
To further bolster the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) has proactively integrated its internal medical resources. Leveraging on-site medical staff and fundamental medicines, the company executed two pilot projects offering free community medical consultations near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025, which were met with significant appreciation from residents. Following the positive outcome of these pilots, the program initiated a broader needs assessment and officially commenced the first phase of its “Healthy Communities” program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated a total of seven complimentary community medical consultations, delivering healthcare services to 1,249 local inhabitants, and has generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the rollout of these free consultations, the company’s team recognized that livestock represents a critical source of income and livelihood for local families, and that herders urgently required animal care. Addressing these pressing community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) expanded the scope of its “Healthy Communities” initiatives. Collaborating with local livestock authorities and other organizations, WAPCO (Niger) delivered vaccination and deworming services to over 20,000 animals across three major pastoral gathering points situated along the pipeline, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their vital productive assets.

As a socially responsible enterprise, WAPCO (Niger) has upheld a philosophy of mutually beneficial cooperation and shared development since its inception. While ensuring the secure and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) consistently champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), executes public interest donations, and extends aid to communities. The company actively contributes to enhancing local livelihoods and fostering social progress, thereby continuously strengthening the population’s “sense of gain” and cultivating an external environment conducive to the pipeline’s safe operation.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to further refining its community needs assessments to precisely address the expectations of riparian populations. The company will consistently broaden the reach of its public interest activities, ensuring more residents can partake in the benefits of development. While guaranteeing the safe and efficient functioning of this critical energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will continue to collaborate closely with the community, implementing tangible measures to advance livelihood improvements and foster mutual growth and shared development between WAPCO (Niger) and the communities it serves.
