Wadagni dissolves multiple state agencies in sweeping administrative reform

Romuald Wadagni, lors de sa visite à Niamey le 03 juin 2026

President Romuald Wadagni has launched a major institutional offensive, undertaking a deep reorganization of Bénin’s public administration by dissolving several strategic agencies inherited from the previous regime of Patrice Talon.

This wave of dissolutions, which directly impacts the culture and tourism sectors, is part of a broader drive to rationalise state structures and marks the beginning of a clear strategy to imprint a new direction on government action.

From his early days in office, the new occupant of the Marina Palace chose to redefine the mechanisms of public policy implementation by eliminating multiple agencies. Among the dissolved entities are the Agency for the Development of Arts and Culture (Adac), the Bénin Tourisme Agency, and the National Agency for the Promotion of Heritage and Tourism Development (Anpt), which previously served as the state’s operational arm to establish Bénin as a leading tourist destination.

The stated ambition behind this sweeping restructuring is to end the dispersion of resources and optimise the national administrative organisation. While the presidential decree lays the groundwork for a more streamlined governance, the details of transferring the competencies of these defunct agencies, as well as the fate of their staff, remain to be clarified by the competent authorities.

By taking this strong political action in the early months of his mandate, Romuald Wadagni sets the tone for his governance and shows his determination to rationalise the state apparatus.
