United States reaffirms support for Morocco’s stance on Western Sahara
During commemorations marking the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day on July 30, King Mohammed VI received a special message from United States President Donald Trump. In his communication, the American leader reaffirmed Washington’s unwavering recognition of Morocco’s full sovereignty over Western Sahara, while endorsing Rabat’s autonomy plan as the sole viable path to resolving the long-standing territorial dispute.
«The United States stands firm: we recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorse the Moroccan autonomy proposal as a serious, credible, and realistic foundation for a just and lasting solution,» Trump declared in his official statement.
He emphasized that «any alternative approach merely perpetuates the status quo,» calling it «unacceptable.» The U.S. President stressed the urgency of ending the dispute, vowing that America would continue driving progress toward this resolution. «This disagreement must conclude now,» he asserted, «and the United States will keep advancing toward that goal.»
In a congratulatory message directed to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, Trump reflected on «250 years of American-Moroccan friendship,» describing the bond as «built on trust and mutual respect.» He praised the Moroccan monarch’s «wise leadership,» hailing him as «a pillar of stability» across the region.
Highlighting Morocco’s commitment to peace, Trump underscored the country’s contributions to combating extremism and safeguarding regional security—both for Americans and Moroccans. He specifically referenced the Kingdom’s pivotal role in the Abraham Accords, framing the partnership as invaluable for U.S. interests. «To this end,» he added, «we will also collaborate to strengthen security in the Sahel region.»
On the economic front, the U.S. President directed his administration to prioritize initiatives fostering economic and social development in Morocco, including Western Sahara. He identified technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense as key sectors for strategic collaboration.
«Together, we will forge a new era,» Trump concluded, urging a partnership centered on mutual prosperity and shared interests.
