The opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has escalated tensions in Senegal by vowing to deploy a censure motion against the government led by Prime Minister Al Aminou Lo. Speaking during a two-day event organized by his party, PASTEF, in Touba, Sonko declared that his movement would not hesitate to use all legal parliamentary tools to challenge what he describes as unacceptable governance practices.

« We will employ every legal avenue at our disposal, including a censure motion, to remove this government—repeatedly if necessary, » Sonko emphasized before a crowd of party supporters. His remarks underscored a firm stance against policies he argues violate the principles PASTEF has fought for over the past decade, including sacrifices made by its members.

Sonko’s declaration places the censure motion at the center of his political strategy, framing it as a legitimate response to policies he opposes. « We have fought for ten years, with sacrifices and martyrs. We will not allow such practices to take root, » he asserted, signaling that PASTEF is prepared to pursue this parliamentary pathway whenever deemed necessary.
