Controversial fund management under scrutiny

The Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains, in a statement released on August 25, 2026, has intensified its critique of the management of special funds allocated for peace initiatives in Casamance. The political group asserts that Ousmane Sonko authorized expenditures totaling 3.7 billion CFA francs from the “Jamm pour la Paix en Casamance” account between 2025 and 2026, allegedly without providing adequate justification for these disbursements.

The party highlights that the former Prime Minister reportedly cited vehicle acquisitions and the refurbishment of the administrative building as explanations for some of these expenses. However, Kiiraay maintains that such operations bear no direct relevance to the fund’s primary objective, which is to support peace efforts within the Casamance region.

For the ruling political faction, this situation raises significant concerns regarding the consistency of public discourse on transparency and financial accountability. The party declared, « Transparency appears to be a variable standard, » emphasizing that all public funds should be subject to identical rigorous justification requirements, irrespective of the official responsible for their management.

This public statement from the Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains follows a recent ruling by the Conseil constitutionnel, which deemed unconstitutional a law passed by the PASTEF-dominated National Assembly aimed at overseeing special funds. As of now, former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has not issued a response to these allegations from the ruling party.
