The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has officially responded to the Constitutional Council’s decision declaring the constitutional reform law passed by lawmakers unconstitutional. The leader of the Pastef movement acknowledged the ruling of the « Seven Wise Men », emphasizing that their decision « applies to all » without exception.
« Regardless of the debates or opinions this ruling may spark, one fact remains undeniable: this decision is binding for everyone. Case closed! » Sonko stated in a public statement.
In his remarks, Sonko underscored that this moment serves as a reminder of the importance of institutional roles. « When each institution operates within its designated authority, no crisis can emerge, » he noted.
The National Assembly’s leader reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate. « The National Assembly will continue to exercise its duties fully: laws will be debated, passed, or rejected to honor our commitments to this resilient and dignified nation, » he declared with conviction.
