With its inaugural national congress approaching in less than three weeks, the Pastef leadership converged on Friday, May 15, at Ousmane Sonko’s residence in Cité Keur Gorgui. The pivotal meeting aimed to initiate the party’s most significant structural transformation. Prominent historical figures and key lieutenants, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were among those present, demonstrating a united front.

The discussions focused intensely on the political agenda for the coming weeks. A significant portion of the meeting addressed the logistical and political dimensions of the upcoming national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the exact venue remains undecided, Diamniadio emerged as a strong possibility for hosting this landmark event.

Ousmane Sonko, the esteemed leader of Pastef, conveyed his unwavering commitment to the congress’s success. He emphasized his determination to showcase the party’s enduring political strength. “We must ensure the congress is a triumph and reignite the party’s base,” he instructed his inner circle. Beyond the immediate focus on the congress, Sonko also underscored the critical need for Pastef to undergo comprehensive restructuring, enhancing its clarity and public understanding.

The leader of the Patriots further elaborated on the imperative of remobilization. He stressed the necessity of engaging with communities on the ground, extending outreach even to the most remote regions. Following the gathering, El Malick Ndiaye, a senior Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared on his Facebook page that “beyond current challenges, bright prospects are emerging for our nation and our collective vision. These are prospects brimming with hope, progress, and sovereignty, which we are committed to building together, through unwavering faith, discipline, and dedication.”
