Maurice Digbeu Kipré, the visionary founder and CEO of Côte d’Ivoire’s Serenity Insurance, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Abidjan at the age of 75.
Kipré’s professional journey began after completing his education in both Côte d’Ivoire and the United States. In 1979, he launched his career at American International Group (AIG), where he gained valuable experience in the insurance sector.
His leadership in the industry was further cemented in 1988 when he was appointed Director of Insurance at Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Economy and Finance. This role allowed him to shape national insurance policies before transitioning to the private sector.
In 1993, Kipré took the helm of CICA-RE, a regional reinsurance company, a position he held until early 2008. Following this, he made a bold entrepreneurial move by establishing Serenity Insurance in November of that same year. Under his guidance, the company grew into a trusted name in African insurance.
His contributions extended far beyond corporate leadership. Recognized as a pillar of the African insurance landscape, Kipré served on multiple influential boards, including the Regional Control Commission of CIMA, the executive committee of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO), the executive office of the Federation of African National Insurance Companies (FANAF), and the board of the International Insurance Institute of Yaoundé (III).
