Norwegian Minister visits Senegal to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Norway’s Minister of International Development, His Excellency Åsmund Aukrust, conducted an official visit to Dakar from May 3-4, 2026.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar proudly hosted Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, during an official visit to Senegal from May 3-4, 2026. This visit underscores a pivotal moment in deepening bilateral relations and fostering closer cooperation between the two nations.


During his stay, the Minister engaged in high-level discussions with key Senegalese officials, including Cheikh Niang, Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad; Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition; Abdourahmane Sarr, Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation; and El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly.


These meetings provided a platform to address pressing regional challenges, particularly the situation in the Sahel, security dynamics, and sustainable development initiatives. Talks also covered global priorities and multilateral efforts such as the UN80 agenda, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to collaborative solutions.


The visit highlighted Senegal’s pivotal role as a stable democracy and a key partner in advancing peace and regional cooperation.
