Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, presented the strategic vision of King Mohammed VI regarding regional security and African stability during a gathering in El Jadida this Tuesday. His address emphasized a commitment to the continent’s prosperity and long-term development.
Speaking at the opening of the 5th High-Level Meeting of heads of security and counter-terrorism agencies in Africa—an event hosted under the banner of the Marrakech Platform in collaboration with the United Nations—the minister provided a comprehensive assessment of the current security landscape.
Bourita highlighted several critical and evolving threats facing the region, including:
- The expansion and regionalization of terrorist activities across the continent.
- The rise in frequency of armed conflicts.
- The dangerous convergence between terrorist organizations, separatist movements, and transnational criminal networks.
- Emerging security challenges resulting from rapid technological advancements and the integration of artificial intelligence.
In response to these developments, the minister underscored that the Royal Vision provides a holistic framework for addressing African realities. He reiterated that Morocco’s policy toward the region is rooted in a deep sense of belonging, noting that for the Kingdom, Africa is not merely a diplomatic priority but a fundamental reality encompassing shared history, geography, identity, and political institutions.
Furthermore, Bourita stressed that Morocco’s proactive stance is driven by the conviction that the continent’s security and development are inextricably linked to its own. Consequently, the Kingdom’s involvement in counter-terrorism efforts is viewed as a vital historical responsibility toward the stability of the entire region.
The minister also championed an afro-optimist approach to regional policy. He maintained that despite ongoing security hurdles, Morocco remains firmly convinced that Africa is a continent of immense future potential, possessing the necessary ingenuity and resources to overcome these obstacles.
