The Spanish team, led by Divisional General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, Head of Intelligence, was on an official visit to strengthen bilateral ties.

According to an official statement from the Directorate-General for National Security (DGSN), the meeting underscored the robust security cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish authorities—a model in counterterrorism and cross-border crime prevention.
Several senior officials from both the DGSN and the Directorate-General for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) received prestigious Spanish honors. These distinctions, issued by Spain’s Interior Minister, recognize their pivotal role in enhancing operational collaboration and technical support between the two nations.

The communiqué emphasized how these awards reflect the depth of Morocco-Spain’s strategic partnership, highlighting Madrid’s acknowledgment of Moroccan security leaders’ expertise in addressing shared threats.
During the ceremony, General Peláez Piñeiro praised Morocco as an “indispensable strategic partner” in the fight against terrorism and organized crime. He commended the advanced bilateral security cooperation, which has proven effective against evolving regional and global challenges.

This recognition follows the November 2025 awarding of Spain’s highest civilian honor, the Grand Cross of Civil Guard Merit, to Abdellatif Hammouchi. Earlier, in 2014, he was also decorated with the Cross of Police Merit with Red Distinction, honoring his long-standing contributions to exemplary Moroccan-Spanish security collaboration.
