The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared that they have successfully regained the upper hand in all conflict zones, countering attacks orchestrated by the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) in the northern regions and the Support for Islam and Muslims (JNIM) group, affiliated with Al-Qaeda, in central and southern Mali.
In their latest official statement, the FAMA revealed that intense clashes persisted on Sunday near Anifif, located in the northeastern part of the country, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The fighting escalated following the arrival of additional personnel and reinforcements for the FLA.
According to the army’s communiqué, the Malian forces responded with unwavering resolve, engaging in sustained combat throughout the day with remarkable courage and tactical discipline. The statement underscored the military’s “unshakable confidence” in its ability to safeguard national sovereignty, protect civilian populations, and decisively defeat enemy forces.
The FAMA also dismissed recent claims about the death of a prominent FLA leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that he remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali. This confirmation comes after conflicting reports from the FLA’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, who previously asserted control over the situation in Anfif following renewed clashes.
