The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting full control over conflict zones targeted by coordinated assaults. Recent offensives by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad in the north and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern Mali have been countered with renewed military vigor.
An official statement from the FAMA confirmed ongoing clashes on Sunday near Anifif, a strategic locale situated roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The engagement followed the arrival of additional personnel and equipment dispatched to reinforce the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad’s positions.
« Despite mounting pressure, our troops demonstrated exceptional resolve, maintaining relentless combat operations throughout the day with unwavering discipline and courage, » the statement emphasized. It reaffirmed the army’s « absolute confidence in its capacity to safeguard national unity, protect civilians, and dismantle hostile forces. »
The National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anifif amid renewed hostilities. However, the group swiftly refuted rumors regarding the death of its leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, insisting he remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
