Economic and infrastructure partnerships take center stage

The President of Madagascar’s Refoundation Movement, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, attended the 66th anniversary of Chad’s Independence Day in N’Djamena on August 11, 2026. The event, held at Place de la Nation, featured a major military parade. Invited by Chadian President Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, Randrianirina joined celebrations alongside Guinea-Bissau’s President, General Horta N’Tam. The three leaders wore military uniforms during the ceremony.
This visit also strengthened ties between Antananarivo and N’Djamena. The day before, the two heads of state discussed bilateral relations and potential cooperation areas, with a strong focus on economic growth and infrastructure development. Randrianirina emphasized Africa’s collective progress potential, stating, ‘When Africans unite and support one another, the continent thrives.’

Reinforcing historic ties

The Malagasy leader highlighted the long-standing yet underutilized diplomatic relations between Madagascar and Chad. He pointed to multiple sectors where collaboration could flourish. In response, the Chadian President announced plans to visit Madagascar, aiming to deepen their partnership.
Both nations share a colonial past under French rule, adopted republican status in 1958, and gained independence in 1960, further strengthening their historical bond.
