Abidjan, May 22, 2026 — The pan-African initiative Builders of the African Economy has unveiled its 20th anniversary honors, recognizing nations across the continent for outstanding public policies and sectoral achievements that have fueled economic and social progress.
Groundbreaking recognition for impactful policies
The newly introduced exceptional category celebrates states that have made significant strides in key sectors through effective governance and strategic reforms. Winners were chosen by an independent panel of African economists and journalists, evaluating criteria such as policy impact, economic performance, sectoral progress, and contributions to African integration.
Ivorian excellence in agriculture highlighted
The Côte d’Ivoire stood out in the agricultural category, a testament to its transformative policies in boosting food security and rural development. Other laureates included:
- The Democratic Republic of Congo for mining advancements,
- The Seychelles in education, training, and employment,
- The Morocco in health, pharmaceuticals, and environmental sustainability,
- The Egypt for infrastructure development,
- The Kenya in technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation,
- The Algeria in energy solutions,
- The South Africa in industrial and service sectors,
- The Tanzania in tourism and hospitality,
- The Nigeria in creative and cultural industries.
Special recognitions for gender equality and diaspora engagement
Beyond sectoral awards, the Namibia was honored for gender equality and women’s empowerment, while the Ghana received recognition for its diaspora return programs and regional integration efforts. Morocco also claimed the 20th-anniversary special prize for its sweeping national transformations.
A vision for sustainable African growth
Founder of Builders of the African Economy, Michel Russel Lohoré, emphasized the initiative’s mission to spotlight not just businesses and economic leaders, but the public policies and national visions that drive lasting economic change across Africa.
The jury, led by international affairs expert Valentin Mbougueng, based its decisions on rankings from global and regional bodies, specialized publications, and field-level insights from its members.
The laureates will be celebrated at a gala event in Abidjan on June 18, marking two decades of honoring those shaping Africa’s economic future.
Established in 2006, the platform annually rewards businesses, institutions, and investors committed to the continent’s development.
