The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has arrived in France for a three-day state visit, marking his second official trip to the country since assuming office.
During his stay in Paris, discussions with French officials will center on deepening collaboration across key sectors, including investments, infrastructure development, energy transition, industrialization, cultural exchanges, and economic relations.
Accompanied by a high-profile delegation comprising business leaders, government officials, and media representatives, President Oligui Nguema is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation.
One of the most critical topics on the agenda is the local processing of manganese, a mineral for which Gabon stands as a global leader in production. Libreville has set a 2029 deadline to halt the export of raw manganese, aiming to boost the nation’s industrial capacity and maximize value addition within its borders.
Defense cooperation will also feature prominently in the discussions. The two heads of state are expected to address the renewal of their military partnership and the future of Camp De Gaulle, France’s military base in Libreville. As part of broader efforts to restructure its military presence in Africa, France has significantly downsized its troop deployment in Gabon, reducing numbers from approximately 1,200 to fewer than 100 personnel.
