Gabon’s state-owned water and electricity company, the Société d’énergie et d’eau du Gabon (SEEG), has been split into two separate entities. This restructuring aims to improve efficiency and address long-standing service issues, but the country’s broader energy challenges remain largely unresolved. Despite the division, power outages and water supply disruptions continue to affect residents in Libreville and beyond, highlighting the deep-rooted structural problems within the sector.
Observers note that while the split may streamline management and attract targeted investment, it does not tackle the underlying issues of aging infrastructure, limited generation capacity, and financial mismanagement. The government has pledged reforms, but tangible improvements are yet to materialize for the population.
