Both clubs were under close scrutiny, and the decision has now been announced. On Friday, the DNCG revealed the restrictions that Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais must follow during the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. For Marseille, the National Directorate of Management Control of the LFP (DNCG) imposed a “salary cap and transfer fee restrictions”.

Lyon, meanwhile, also faces a sanction: “control of the salary mass based on the budget following the club’s change of control”. This announcement follows the review of the clubs’ situations by the Professional Club Control Commission for the upcoming season. In a press conference, Michele Kang confirmed that Lyon remains in Ligue 1 and that she becomes the majority shareholder of the Rhône club.

OM already sanctioned by UEFA

For Marseille, this decision comes less than ten days after UEFA imposed a €10 million fine for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations. Marseille knew they were in the sights of French football’s financial watchdog.

The DNCG had announced on Tuesday that it had requested “additional information” from Marseille, whose finances were weakened by a difficult 2025-2026 season on all fronts. In 2021 and again in 2023, the Olympian club had already been subjected to a salary cap.
