The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, arrived in Libreville on Friday for a working and friendship visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties with Gabon.
A massive crowd of locals greeted the Congolese leader at the airport, creating an electric atmosphere as he made his way through the streets of the capital.
Following his arrival, President Tshisekedi paid a solemn tribute at the newly renovated Léon Mba Memorial. He laid a wreath in honor of Gabon’s first president, a key figure in the country’s independence movement. The tribute included a display of Léon Mba’s biography and a moment of silence accompanied by the solemn playing of the national anthem.
The visit to the memorial was part of a broader effort to honor African leaders who played pivotal roles in the continent’s emancipation. President Tshisekedi concluded his tribute by signing the guestbook before proceeding to his next engagement.
On Saturday, he held bilateral talks with Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the presidential palace to discuss key economic and diplomatic matters.
Both nations, members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), have maintained close diplomatic relations, often marked by high-level exchanges between their respective capitals.
