The Diomaye President coalition has strongly criticized the recent statements made by Ousmane Sonko during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Coalition leaders describe his remarks as disrespectful toward the Head of State and a departure from the responsibility expected of a high-ranking institutional figure.

Bassirou Dieng, a prominent member of the coalition, emphasized that such comments are incompatible with the principles of a rule of law and a functioning democracy. Speaking to a local radio station, he stated, « In a constitutional democracy, it is unacceptable for a National Assembly president to make derogatory remarks about the President of the Republic. »

He further noted that Ousmane Sonko’s statements have sparked widespread debate across social media and traditional outlets. « Since his remarks in Mbacké, reactions have flooded in from all corners. Nearly everyone disagrees with his words, denouncing them as scandalous, » he remarked, urging Sonko to exercise restraint.

Bassirou Dieng also warned that the presidential coalition will no longer tolerate what it views as repeated attacks on state institutions. « The Diomaye President coalition will respond decisively. Going forward, we will not tolerate any more disrespectful comments from Ousmane Sonko—whether directed at the President, the Head of State, or other representatives of the State, » he declared.

This strong reaction follows Ousmane Sonko’s public address in Mbacké, which has intensified political discussions and drawn sharp criticism from the ruling majority.
