Chad and Burkina Faso join forces against rising terrorism in the Sahel
As the Sahel grapples with escalating security threats, Chad and Burkina Faso have announced a unified stance to bolster their defense collaboration. This strategic move comes as both nations face persistent terrorist activities along their shared borders.
On Wednesday, a high-level delegation from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, was warmly received in Ouagadougou by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana. The discussions centered on deepening bilateral cooperation to combat terrorism, as outlined in an official statement from N’Djamena.
“This meeting lays the groundwork for a future high-level joint commission between Chad and Burkina Faso, dedicated to tackling the shared scourge of terrorism,” explained Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to Chad’s Minister of Public Security and a member of the delegation. He emphasized that both countries aim to leverage their historical ties and operational experiences to develop a security framework tailored to regional realities.
The delegation praised the hospitality extended by Burkina Faso and expressed hope that this momentum would translate into a robust, sustainable, and mutually advantageous security partnership—one that fully respects each nation’s sovereignty.
According to the joint statement, the newly forged alliance will be formalized through upcoming bilateral cooperation milestones, particularly within the framework of the planned joint commission. This body will further refine collaboration strategies between Chad and Burkina Faso.
