Driven by a strong push for development and competitiveness, Cameroon is rolling out a series of measures to upgrade its road, rail, urban and airport infrastructure.

On 24 and 25 June 2026, a workshop presented the findings of feasibility studies for two major projects: the creation of an Agency for the Regulation of Land Transport (ARTT) and the development of a National Logistics Strategy (SLN) along with an action plan up to 2035.

The workshop brought together Mbamome Nkendong Divine, Director of Road Transport (DTR), Claude Misse Ntone, Director of Rail Transport (DTF), a team from consultancy Idea Consult International/TRT Studi Cameroun, as well as representatives from several partner administrations and financial institutions including the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

In his opening remarks, the DTR urged participants to pay close attention to the preliminary study findings, which are expected to effectively guide the next steps of these projects. During the discussions, the consultants provided comprehensive presentations of the work completed.

The studies indicate that the ARTT should be based in Yaoundé, initially focusing on road transport before gradually expanding its scope. Establishing this agency would require an initial investment of about 260 million CFA francs, covering the institutional framework, office setup and equipment, as well as the necessary computer hardware.

The study on Cameroon’s National Logistics Strategy (SLN) analyses the main features of the country’s logistics system, outlining strategic issues, challenges and objectives. It concludes by proposing an eight-axis action plan with dominant rail investments estimated at 40 billion euros, and the creation of a National Logistics Council tasked with interministerial coordination and arbitration.

At the close of the workshop, the Director of Road Transport praised the quality of contributions and the richness of the exchanges. He called on all stakeholders to remain committed to successfully completing the next phases of these transformative projects for the future of Cameroon’s land transport sector.
