Strengthening financial inclusion through insurance brokerage
Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo hosted a delegation from the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Brokers (FIAC) on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Led by Acting President Vakaramoko Samaké, the group briefed the head of government on the objectives of the 16th Annual General Assembly, which will take place in Ouagadougou from June 10 to 13, 2026.
Under the theme “The role of insurance brokerage in expanding access and improving the penetration rate,” this significant event aims to establish brokers as fundamental players in the drive for financial inclusion across the continent.
Nearly 200 delegates from the 14 member nations of the Inter-African Conference of Insurance Markets (CIMA), along with representatives from Guinée Conakry and Ghana, are expected to participate in this regional forum. Following the meeting, Vakaramoko Samaké expressed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s decision to personally patronize the event.

“We highlighted the critical nature of our profession. Today, insurance brokers contribute significantly to national economic development and job creation. This general assembly signals a qualitative shift we intend to lead. Focusing on financial inclusion marks a new chapter in how our industry supports the general population,” Samaké explained.
A commitment to economic resilience
The Prime Minister welcomed the choice of Ouagadougou as the host city for this 16th edition, describing it as a gesture of solidarity toward the country. He noted that despite external criticisms and negative stereotypes, Burkina Faso continues to advance steadily, as reflected in its macroeconomic performance indicators.
Addressing the relevance of the assembly’s theme, the Prime Minister emphasized its alignment with the government’s strategic priorities. “Your role is vital. Insurance has become indispensable in every sector. In rural areas, for instance, we are now discussing climate insurance. This demonstrates that as risks evolve, our citizens require a baseline of coverage,” he remarked.
Reaffirming the state’s dedication to utilizing insurance brokerage as a pillar of resilience, the Prime Minister assured the delegation of his administration’s readiness to collaborate and implement the assembly’s recommendations. He encouraged the brokers to remain united and adapt to contemporary global shifts.
Through this high-level meeting, the government signals its intent to integrate the insurance sector as a key component of the economic rebuilding and resilience efforts in Burkina Faso.
