In 2024, a minor trace of meldonium, a prohibited substance, was detected in Mudryk’s doping test. The Ukrainian winger subsequently faced a four-year suspension. He appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, under the updated World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations, an identical result today would not have triggered a disciplinary process.

“Regulations have since been revised,” stated the Football Association in an official statement. “While the outcome cannot be reassessed retroactively, Mudryk’s positive test would no longer warrant a suspension. The meldonium concentration detected in his sample would not have been flagged under current rules, meaning no anti-doping violation would have occurred.”

“Given these changes and other case-specific factors, the FA and Mudryk reached a mutual agreement, with WADA’s endorsement.”

As part of this resolution, Mudryk acknowledged breaching anti-doping protocols and accepted a completed suspension period. Consequently, his ban has now been lifted, allowing him to resume competitive play immediately.
