Bujumbura has become the focal point this weekend for a series of high-level consultations on the Democratic Republic of Congo’s political landscape. These crucial discussions were initiated by Évariste Ndayishimiye, the President of Burundi and the current Chairperson of the African Union, who extended invitations to various Congolese delegations.
Key members of the C64 opposition coalition’s presidium, including Martin Fayulu, Delly Sesanga, Dieudonné Bolengetenge, Jean Marc Kabund, and Francklin Tshiamala, have arrived in the Burundian capital. They are slated to engage in direct meetings with President Ndayishimiye regarding the ongoing situation.
Religious denominations are also playing a significant role in these important exchanges. Archbishop Ejiba Yamapia, who chairs the Platform of Religious Confessions and Revival Churches in the DRC, is among the prominent figures present. Additionally, delegations representing the Catholic Church and the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC) have traveled to Bujumbura to participate in the dialogue.
These consultations in Bujumbura thus bring together a broad spectrum of Congolese society, encompassing both the political opposition and the nation’s leading religious confessions, all united in their efforts to address the current political crisis gripping the DRC.
