Eight people were killed and one injured in a Boko Haram-linked assault that struck a village in Cameroon’s Far North region early Friday night, local sources confirmed on Saturday.
The brutal attack unfolded just before midnight in Kangaleri, a community in the Mayo-Sava department, leaving residents in shock. Six victims died instantly, while three others suffered severe injuries and were rushed for medical care. Tragically, two more succumbed to their wounds by Saturday morning, bringing the provisional death toll to eight. One survivor remained in critical condition, according to local reports.
Consistent with the group’s tactics, the attackers struck under the cover of darkness before fleeing the scene. Authorities are still investigating the exact sequence of events and the identities of those who lost their lives.

Within hours, a second Boko Haram-related assault was reported in Tourou, a town in the Mokolo district near the Nigerian border. Witnesses described how the attackers looted livestock and goods before setting fire to a local market close to Tourou’s town center. No casualties were immediately reported in this incident.
The Far North region of Cameroon continues to endure frequent raids by Boko Haram fighters and splinter factions, despite ongoing counter-insurgency efforts by the Cameroonian military and the Multinational Joint Task Force operating in the Lake Chad basin.
