Bénin and World Bank launch decade-long partnership for jobs and human capital
A landmark collaboration between Bénin and the World Bank Group (WBG) officially kicked off in Cotonou, marking the launch of a decade-long Country Partnership Framework (CPF) spanning 2026 to 2036. The initiative is set to drive inclusive and sustainable economic transformation across the West African nation.
The launch ceremony drew key figures, including Bénin’s government officials, diplomatic envoys, and international development partners. The CPF 2026-2036 is meticulously designed to align with Bénin’s national development priorities over the next ten years, structured around three core pillars: enhancing human capital through improved nutrition, healthcare, and skills training; expanding access to critical infrastructure; and accelerating private-sector-led economic growth.
The framework also embeds resilience-building measures under the Prevention and Resilience Program, aiming to bolster national stability and social cohesion in Bénin.
Anna Bjerde, WBG’s Managing Director of Operations, praised Bénin’s leadership, particularly President Romuald Wadagni and his administration, for their forward-looking vision. She highlighted the strategic timing of the CPF launch, coinciding with a period of political momentum and the strategic roadmap known as Alafia Bénin 2060.
Bjerde emphasized that the partnership will translate ambitious goals into tangible outcomes, particularly benefiting young people and entrepreneurs. She underscored the critical role of investing in human capital and productive infrastructure to foster sustainable, job-creating growth in Bénin.
The WBG’s commitment to supporting Bénin’s efforts was reaffirmed, with a focus on boosting the country’s economic competitiveness and improving living standards for its people.
Aristide Medenou, Bénin’s Minister of Economy, Finance, and Cooperation, affirmed that the new CPF perfectly complements national priorities, especially in agriculture, private-sector expansion, and youth employment.
For the Bénin government, the CPF 2026-2036 represents a catalyst for accelerated socio-economic change, stronger resilience, and expanded opportunities for future generations.
