Romuald Wadagni, President of the Republic of Bénin, convened the maiden session of his seven-year administration’s Council of Ministers on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Held at the Palais de la Marina in Cotonou, the inaugural meeting set the tone for the 2026–2033 mandate, outlining the president’s vision for transformative governance.
Mandate begins with a call to service over self-interest
Addressing the newly appointed ministers, President Wadagni framed their roles not as positions of privilege but as missions of national service. He underscored the importance of integrity, sobriety, and solidarity in public office, warning against partisan or personal biases in decision-making. The president’s remarks emphasized that the government’s success would hinge on collective commitment to the nation’s progress.
Equitable development and security top the agenda
The Council of Ministers meeting also highlighted two critical priorities: bridging regional disparities and safeguarding national security. President Wadagni urged accelerated efforts to reduce inequalities across Bénin’s communes, advocating for targeted investments in infrastructure, essential services, and local governance.
In parallel, he reinforced the urgency of sustaining defense and territorial protection, particularly in light of recent security challenges in the northern regions. The president’s directives signal a dual focus on inclusive growth and robust stability as pillars of his administration’s strategy.
Streamlined governance for results-driven leadership
To enhance efficiency, the government unveiled a restructured operational framework. Future Council of Ministers sessions will convene monthly, on the first Wednesday of each month, with additional extraordinary meetings scheduled as needed. The Interministerial Committee will meet twice monthly—on the first and third Mondays—to ensure tighter coordination.
The administration also plans to introduce joint sessions, merging the Interministerial Committee, the Council of Ministers, and sectoral ministers to tackle complex policy challenges with a unified approach. These structural reforms aim to foster agility, accountability, and decisive action in governance.
With President Wadagni sworn in on May 24, 2026, this first ministerial gathering marks the formal launch of a new chapter in Bénin’s national development.
