Effective June 2026, travelers from Gabon seeking US visas will face new restrictions as the Trump administration phases out consular services in several African nations.
The shift reduces the number of African countries authorized to process American visa applications from approximately 50 to just a handful. Gabon is among those losing its visa issuance privileges, forcing applicants to travel to neighboring countries like Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, or Togo for their appointments.
The policy aims to curb illegal immigration, but the practical consequences are steep. Applicants must now account for longer travel distances, higher transportation costs, and extended stays in foreign cities like Yaoundé, Kinshasa, or Lomé. These additional expenses and logistical hurdles could deter many prospective travelers.
