The credentials of Ms. Myriam Montrat (Canada), Mr. Najeeb Durrani (Pakistan), and Mr. George Kofi Nfojoh (Ghana) were presented on November 12, marking a pivotal step in strengthening ties with traditional allies and emerging economic partners.

Canada’s renewed focus on trade, gender equality, and regional security

The Canadian ambassador, Ms. Myriam Montrat, outlined Ottawa’s priorities for its diplomatic mission in Lomé. With a background in inclusive growth at Global Affairs Canada, she emphasized collaboration in key sectors:

  • Economic and social development: Boosting bilateral trade, advancing education and global health initiatives, and championing gender equality.
  • Regional security: Reaffirming Canada’s readiness to support Togo’s efforts in maintaining peace and stability across West Africa.

Pakistan eyes agricultural and technological partnerships with Togo

Mr. Najeeb Durrani, Pakistan’s newly accredited ambassador, highlighted Islamabad’s eagerness to diversify its engagement with Lomé. Drawing from his extensive diplomatic experience in the Middle East, he outlined a broad agenda:

« We will elevate cooperation across political, economic, agricultural, and security domains, » he stated. This accreditation aligns with Togo’s strategic pivot toward Asian economic powerhouses.

Ghana and Togo: A shared vision for security and cultural unity

Mr. George Kofi Nfojoh, Ghana’s ambassador, underscored the deep cultural and historical bonds between the two nations. « We are one people, sharing the same heritage… It is essential to work together for the prosperity of our citizens, » he remarked.
