The President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, received on Friday a special envoy from Chad’s President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, in Lomé. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, African integration, and the upcoming Forum on African Water.
The President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, granted an audience to Fatime Aldjineh Garfa, a deputy minister at Chad’s Foreign Ministry, who brought a message from the Chadian president. The envoy reiterated the two countries’ commitment to consolidating their bilateral cooperation.
Discussions also centered on the challenges of African integration and water sector development.
‘We bring a personal message from the President of the Republic, Head of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the President of the Council of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Faure Gnassingbé,’ said Mme Fatime Aldjineh Garfa.
‘We also transmitted an official invitation from the Head of State of Chad to the African Water Forum, scheduled for July 15-16, 2026 in N’Djamena,’ she added.
The 15 and 16 July 2026 event is part of the Union Africa’s Agenda 2063. It will bring together African leaders and technical and financial partners to discuss water investments on the continent.
Through this visit, Lomé and N’Djamena reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen their political partnership and promote joint initiatives for development and African integration.
