In a move driven by reciprocity, Taiwan has decided to temporarily halt the processing of visa applications submitted by Moroccan nationals. This decision comes as a direct response to reports that Morocco has ceased accepting visa requests from Taiwanese travelers worldwide.
According to official statements from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Moroccan embassy in Japan recently notified Taiwanese travel agencies that the issuance of visa confirmation letters for Taiwanese citizens had been suspended. Further reports indicate that the Moroccan government has instructed its embassies and consulates globally to discontinue processing these requests, thereby impacting travel and bilateral exchanges between the two nations.
In retaliation, Taiwan has announced that, effective immediately, it will no longer process visa applications from Moroccan nationals, with the exception of cases requiring special authorization. The Taiwanese government has urged Morocco to reinstate practical travel arrangements and has emphasized that it will continue to monitor Morocco’s visa policies before considering additional measures.
It is worth noting that Morocco does not officially recognize Taiwan, adhering instead to the principle of a «single China». As a result, the two countries do not maintain formal diplomatic relations.
