Following Ousmane Sonko’s direct appeal to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye regarding the urgent need to confirm the election date, El Malick Ndiaye has now also adopted an unyielding position on the issue.
While in Linguère, where he hosted Ousmane Sonko as part of Pastef’s national tour focused on membership card sales, the deputy firmly declared that no postponement of the elections should even be considered.
“Our membership card sales initiatives are currently energizing the nation in a positive way. Across the country, people are eagerly rushing to acquire Pastef membership cards. This enthusiasm could potentially influence the timing of the upcoming elections,” he articulated.
The former President of the National Assembly, however, remained categorical about ensuring the polls proceed.
“But these elections, no one can push them back. Whether they desire it or not, the contest will happen,” he emphatically warned.
The president of Pastef had similarly urged the head of state to issue a decree to formally set the date for the forthcoming local elections, emphasizing that this decision falls squarely within the presidential prerogatives.
“Issuing a decree to dismiss Fadilou Keïta, Waly Diouf Bodiang, and others is within his powers, and no one disputes that. In the same vein, he must issue a decree to establish the election date. These are all simple decrees,” Sonko had stated.
