The Senegal women’s national football team is scheduled to challenge Tunisia in the second round of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic qualifiers. This pivotal double-header is set to take place in October 2026.
The official draw for the African women’s Olympic qualifying tournament was conducted on Wednesday, April 29, outlining the path for teams through a competition window that runs from June 1, 2026, to December 4, 2027.
Structure of the qualifying tournament
The qualifiers will be organized into five rounds of home-and-away matches. The initial round features only the six teams positioned lowest in the FIFA rankings: Sudan will play the Comoros, South Sudan will face Madagascar, and Mauritius will compete against Djibouti.
The majority of participating nations will enter the fray during the second round next October. This includes Morocco, the finalists of the most recent Women’s AFCON, who will take on Congo. Notably, a high-stakes clash with Nigeria—the current African champions who participated in Paris 2024—could materialize as early as the third round.
Pathways for Senegal and other African nations
In the Senegal vs. Tunisia matchup, the winner will progress to meet the victor of the Mali and Bénin series. Meanwhile, Algérie is slated to begin its quest for a spot in Los Angeles with a trip to the Central African Republic.
Zambia, seeking a third straight Olympic qualification after their appearance at Paris 2024, must first defeat Uganda. Should they succeed, a potential showdown with Ghana awaits them as they strive to secure their ticket to the United States.
