strengthening healthcare access in Maradi and tessaoua

The PIDUREM project is transforming the healthcare landscape in Niger’s Maradi region. Two new type II integrated health centers—one in Maradi’s ADS neighborhood (3rd arrondissement) and another in Tessaoua’s Toudou area—are now operational, equipped with cutting-edge medical technology. These facilities were provisionally handed over between March and October 2025 and have since entered full service, easing the burden on regional hospitals while bringing advanced care closer to communities.

“Bringing healthcare directly to neighborhoods is no longer just a promise—it’s a tangible reality,” stated a representative from the Regional Public Health Directorate.

A third center under construction in Tessaoua’s Tsamia Koura district is nearing completion, with equipment installation scheduled immediately after finalization. This phased approach ensures technical rigor and minimizes delays in service delivery.

institutional commitment and advanced equipment

The project’s success hinges on robust institutional backing. Officials from the Regional Secretariat, City Administration, and Public Health Directorate, along with community representatives, participated in the handover of essential medical equipment tailored for type II health centers. This collaborative effort underscores the project’s comprehensive vision, avoiding the pitfalls of underutilized infrastructure often seen in development initiatives.

By integrating infrastructure development with concurrent equipment delivery, PIDUREM is setting a benchmark for Niger’s healthcare progress. In Maradi, the initiative is revitalizing local healthcare, ensuring that proximity and quality go hand in hand.
