Sénégal: President Sonko Vows to Uphold Parliament’s Role Amid Constitutional Crisis
Senegalese President Ousmane Sonko has reaffirmed the parliament’s commitment to its constitutional role, despite a recent constitutional crisis triggered by the declaration of a reform law unconstitutional.
In a statement, Sonko emphasized that the decision ‘must be accepted by all’ and vowed to uphold the parliament’s authority.
The Senegalese leader highlighted the importance of institutions playing their part in maintaining stability, saying that no crisis can arise when they exercise their duties.
Sonko also reiterated his commitment to the parliament’s mission to pass laws and uphold its constitutional responsibilities. ‘The Assemblée nationale will continue to exercise its mandate fully,’ he promised, assuring that Senegal would honor its commitments to its people.
