Senegal politics: sharp criticism erupts between Abdourahmane Diouf and Ousmane Sonko

Abdourahmane Diouf sharply criticizes Ousmane Sonko

The latest remarks by Ousmane Sonko targeting President Bassirou Diomaye Faye have ignited intense reactions across Senegal’s political spectrum. Dr Abdourahmane Diouf, a government minister, has launched a scathing attack on the Pastef leader, branding his approach as exhibiting « intellectual void »—a stance he argues poses a serious threat to the nation’s democratic foundations.

Ousmane Sonko’s statements questioning the integrity of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye have dominated political discussions in Dakar.

Following the Pastef leader’s remarks in Touba, where he described the Head of State as a « manipulable president, » Dr Abdourahmane Diouf wasted no time in responding. In a sharply worded statement, the minister condemned the conduct of the National Assembly president—without directly naming him—highlighting what he perceives as fundamental flaws in governance.

« Thiey Sénégal! This is what happens when a dishonest deputy ascends to the Assembly’s helm; procedures are bypassed without comprehension, moralizing words strangle your own failures, analytical rigor crumbles under the weight of glaring intellectual emptiness, and truth gives way to excessive manipulation that paves the way for hollow revolutions devoid of solid guidance. For the Republic! Only the Republic! » Diouf declared.
