Dakar lawmakers grill Prime Minister Sonko in quarterly oversight session
The Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, alongside his cabinet members, is set to face the nation’s parliamentarians today in the capital, Dakar. This high-stakes exchange follows the constitutional mandate for quarterly accountability sessions, where the government must respond to pressing legislative inquiries.
Under the framework of Article 104 of the National Assembly’s internal regulations, the session will span 202 minutes, featuring 14 distinct questions. The majority Pastef-Les patriotes parliamentary group will lead with 10 queries, while the opposition Takku Wallu group and independent lawmakers each have two opportunities to challenge the administration’s policies.
This structured dialogue underscores Senegal’s commitment to governance transparency, ensuring citizens receive clear insights into how public affairs are managed. The proceedings will be overseen by Ismaëla Diallo, First Vice-President of the National Assembly, who will maintain procedural order throughout the exchange.
Today’s session marks the fifth accountability exercise since Ousmane Sonko assumed office, reinforcing the government’s obligation to remain answerable to elected representatives and the public.
