Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced on Monday, May 25, the appointment of economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister of Senegal. The decree was read on national television, marking a significant shift in the country’s leadership.

Lô, a former official at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), previously served as Secretary-General in the first government formed by President Faye, who took office in April 2024. His promotion comes after he held a ministerial position in the administration.

The appointment follows a tense period marked by escalating disagreements between President Faye and former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, culminating in Sonko’s dismissal four days prior.
